Movilizaciones sociales en el Mediterráneo peninsular: una lectura desde la mitigación y la adaptación en referencia al cambio climático

Research output: Contribution to journalScientific article

Abstract

The article analyses 480 cases of social mobilisation on the Spanish peninsular coast from the 1970s onwards, relatedto the adaptation and mitigation of climate change either explic-itly or implicitly. Using a database of data collected for the MOVxPAIMED project, we classify cases into six major categories: mitigation, protection of coastal ecosystems, water management, resilient infrastructure, food security and spatial planning. The study com-bines quantitative and qualitative methods to interpret the evolution, actors, results and geographical dimensions of this mobilisation. The results reveal the significant impact of economic and social processes in each area, the great diversity of actors involved and the enormous capacity for impact of the movements: almost 40% of them are totally or partially successful. The article concludes that collective action is a key factor in the construction of more resilient countries and the realisation of a more just and democratic ecological transition.
