Abstract
Thisarticlecontendsandconceptualizesthattheritualofsightseeingandtherelationshipbetweentouristsandtouristattractionsinmonumentalcitiesishighlypredictableandrepetitive.Visitorsinmonumentalcitiesshowpatternsofamimeticbehaviour.Thisritual,whichwecall"fastlook"(ananalogywithfastfood),hasthreefeatures:(1)thelownumberoftouristattractionsvisitedcomparedtothenumberthatcouldpotentiallybevisited;(2)thehighnumberofvisitstoparticulartouristattractions,giventhatthemajorityofvisitorschoosetovisitthesamespaces;and(3)theshorttime,onaverage,spentonvisitingeachattraction.Thefeaturesunderpinning"fastlook"aresupportedbyacasestudyofthemonumentaltownofGirona(Spain)
