Educación comprometida con las artes, educación comprometida con la sociedad.

The talk 'Education and Social Engagement' has suggested some links with my own work and research, in particular the consideration of artistic teaching as a factor for equity with respect to conditions of departure in our education system. My purpose in this paper is to argue that the movement of the arts to the heart of education does not only affect that factor, but also can be an intelligent response for other needed changes described by Subirats, both in the substantive aspects and instrumental-methdological ones. My thesis is that arts can be considered a key to address the deep human and social diversity in which human being are immersed, as well as the technological challenge that is changing all the ways of living. In addition, another factor of change is discussed, namely, the ecological crisis, as one of the great dilemmas to be addressed with education and the arts.
