Description of impact

We study the combustion of solid and gaseous fuels, focusing on determining the flame spread rate and on obtaining both moment and temperature fields. Our research involves experimental, simulation and theoretical studies. Experimental studies are carried out in a combustion chamber that may work at different pressures with a monitored gaseous concentration. This allows us to obtain experimental data for the combustion of different fuels with known environmental conditions. Simulation studies involve the development of new combustion models that use the finite volume method, which are intended to reproduce the observed behavior. Once validated, our combustion model is applied for studying processes that cannot be analyzed in the laboratory like forest and urban fires, etc. Theoretical studies apply mathematical methods in order to simplify our combustion model finally leading to analytical expressions for determining the propagation speed of the flame front and its main features.
