The history of a language, if we understand language as a social construct, was associated, firstly, the history of the community speech and, secondly, the process of constructing the written language. This, in the Catalan context, occurs in two stages: from the tenth century and the twelfth century occurs escripturation process (writing from a Latin tradition?) And from XV-XVI century the process of coding, very clearly tied to the expansion of the press Finally, once the device has been constructed, it must impose socially through institutionalization. In the Catalan case, the appearance of the Generalitat of Catalonia in the early twentieth century is a pivotal moment.
