Partial differential equations for structured population dynamics, and adaptive dynamics in models of population dynamics

Description of impact

The first objective of this research line is the mathematical modeling of structured population dynamics in which individuals are categorized by one or more internal variables like age or size. We are interested in formal aspects of the partial differential equations arising in this study as well as in the analysis of the qualitative behavior of their solutions. The second topic of study is adaptive dynamics of traits (strategies) associated to the life history of individuals. Examples of such evolutionary strategies are the maturation age or the energy allocation function and their optimal values from the evolutionary process are given by the so-called evolutionarily stable strategies. In general, they can be represented by finite-dimensional traits or by infinite-dimensional traits.
